Academic Program Review Part I: The Problem with Academic Program Review

EAB research finds nearly universal dissatisfaction with traditional academic program review processes. In the current context of constrained resources and unprecedented pressure for improved institutional performance, the typical review process focused entirely on disciplinary excellence and requests for additional resources has created frustration among senior administrators, deans, and department chairs. This webinar will profile a number of colleges and universities that have adopted alternative approaches to assessing the performance of academic programs. Key topics addressed include:

  • How to work with faculty to develop a set of acceptable program performance metrics
  • How to set program performance targets that align with institutional priorities
  • How to assess proposed academic programs before they are launch
